Anxiety Natural Remedies
Anxiety natural remedies are probably the best way of riding yourself of anxiety. You needn't tackle traffic in London to experience a stressful situation. Stress is everywhere, even in the relative paradise of Polynesia. Fortunately, there is a herbal treatment for anxiety that is quite likely capable of eleviating your condition.
To get rid of stress or simply to boost their spirits, many islanders drink a beverage which is the product of the kava kava root. Because of its notorious ability to banish anxiety and induce feelings of relaxation and utter bliss, kava has been treasured for centuries in most South Pacific islands including Hawaii as one of the most effective anxiety natural remedies.
The kava drink produced in the islands imparts a soft numbing sensation to your tongue when injested. This is normally followed by a comfortable feeling of relaxation and a noticable reduction in fatigue and anxiety.
In Europe and the mainland United States however, you'll be as likely as coming a cross a kava beverage as you would a flying hippo. On the other hand, you can purchase capsules compressed with powdered kava root. It has sedative, diaphoretic, stimulant, diuretic and -- reportedly -- aphrodisiac properties.
How Kava Actually Works
Just how kava works it's magic is still unclear. Like the best things in life, it remains a mystery. What we do know is that it appears to work to some extent by activating the GABA receptors in our brain. These receptors tend to calm down our neurological activity, which in turn reduces anxiety. Scientists have isolated several compounds from the root which might be responsible for some of these effects. The so-called kava pyrones include kawain, dihydrokawain, dihydromethysticin, dihydromethysticin, yangonin, and dihydroyangonon.
Modest amounts of kava produce a mild euphoria. Concentrated doses may cause you to feel extreme relaxation, a sense of sleepiness and sloth like lethargy.
Kava isn't for everyone and many people quite frankly simply aren't used to being in such a state of relaxation after using anxiety natural remedies.
Kava Studies
In west Europe, research was conducted in a study of 58 patients suffering from common anxiety symptoms. None of the patients participating in the experiment were considered to have had any form of serious mental illness. One part of the group received a placebo, while the remainder took 100 milligrams of kava three times a day for roughly 4 weeks.
The scientists then administered numerous tests to assess the patients' anxiety levels. These included the Hamilton Anxiety Scale, a 60-item Adjectives Check List self-assessment scale, and the Clinical Global Impression scale (CGI). Seven days later, patients who took anxiety natural remedies showed a considerable reduction in anxiety based symptoms, in comparison with the patients who took the placebo. What's more interesting however, is that the kava patients continued to improve throughout the 28-day study.
None of the patients who were given the kava extract complained of adverse reactions. Thus, researchers concluded, that kava extract is "suitable for the general practitioner in treating states of anxiety, tension, and excitedness."
In a simillar study of kava, a hundred patients suffering from a variety of conditions including; agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, or adjustment disorder were examined for over 25 weeks in various mental clinics. Once again half of the group received a placebo while the other half took a special kava extract known as WS 1490.
Researchers then recorded the participants' anxiety levels with the Hamilton Anxiety Scale. Patients who had been taking kava for eight weeks scored significantly better than patients who only took the placebo. The research also concluded that adverse reactions during the study were extremely rare distributed between both test groups further solidifying the effectiveness of anxiety natural remedies.
Many other studies carried out over the years have similarly confirmed that kava is an extremely effective alternative to contemporary modern anxiety medicines and makes a fine addition to the current list of anxiety natural remedies available to the general public.
